Looking

for a

a new family member?

The Forgotten Felines Foundation does not have a shelter. All of our cats and kittens are fostered and socialized in volunteers’ homes – and as a result, we get to know them very well and can provide detailed personality descriptions to prospective homes

Adoption Information

Find out how to adopt
  • How do I adopt a cat or kitten?

The first step is to have a look at our available cats and kittens to see who appears to be a good match for your household. If you need help finding a cat or kitten that is a good match for your home and family, please get in touch.

The next step is to fill out our Pre-adoption questionnaire, This gives us a chance to get to know your family and help find the purr-fect match for your home.

Forgotten Felines does not work on a FIFS basis, we take into account every application and potential adopter that has applied with a thorough process.
Once you have returned the adoption questionnaire. We will then be in contact with you to discuss the adoption and if it sounds like a match, we will then arrange an online visit (via video call) with the cat/kitten in his/ her foster home. This gives you the opportunity to see the cat/kitten in an environment that is familiar to them, around people they know. We believe this is the best way to minimise stress to cats in our care. After that Optional in-person meeting of the kitten/s.

If all goes well at the meet and greet, and you wish to proceed, we will then need to arrange a home visit (either in person or via video call) to see where your new cat will live.

Afterward, you will then be given adoption paperwork to fill out and we will discuss with you when your new forever friend is ready to go home with you.

  • What are the adoption requirements?

First you must be sure you are able to provide a caring and loving home to the cat you are adopting for its natural life span.  We ask that you fill out our Pre-adoption questionnaire, this will include questions about your home, family, and past experience with cats. We require that you keep your new cat inside for 4 weeks and/or until at least 6 months of age.

You must be able to ensure your new cat will not have free access to the outdoors at night.

If you live on a busy road or main highway, ensure your cat will remain indoor-only, or only go out in a secure outdoor area. If other hazards are present, we would like to know how you will minimise the risk to your new cat.

If you are renting we ask that you have a consent letter from your landlord, which can be emailed to us at info@forgottenfelines.org.nz

Most importantly we want to be sure that the cat you are adopting is the purr-fect match for you.

Are you prepared to cover any vet bills that might occur, such as sickness or annual health checks?

Will you be able to safely keep your new cat inside for the first 4 weeks and/or until 6 months of age?

Are you able to ensure your new cat will not have access to the outdoors at night?

If you are not sure about committing to being a furr-ever home, please get in touch with us to discuss. Not ready to adopt, contact us about others ways you can help.
